Uncontested Divorce

Divorce does NOT need to be war. It simply does NOT. An uncontested divorce is an affordable, efficient and relatively quick way to get divorced while still protecting your rights. During an uncontested divorce the parties usually agree to negotiate all terms of the divorce prior to filing any documentation. The other party can be represented or elect to remain without an attorney (also called Pro Se.) In either case, the parties exchange discovery, agree on all terms of the Marital Settlement Agreement and all terms of the Parenting Plan if children are involved. All the agreements are reduced to writing and all paperwork is filed on your behalf.

At PLG we focus on keeping the divorce process, amicable and affordable. Our clients are protected, as they are provided legal advice and direction from inception to final hearing. As our client, you are never alone in the process. We ensure that all the necessary paperwork is prepared correctly and that the calculations for child support, alimony, and/or equitable distribution are done accurately.

PLG strives to keep the process civil and amicable. In many cases it can be done on a flat fee basis with extra charges only as needed. An uncontested divorce, also called an amicable divorce, is not for everyone, but it is often the best option for parties that want to save money and get it done quickly. Uncontested divorces are most common for parties that have limited assets/debts or have already agreed on how to divide assets and debts acquired during the marriage.

It is a common misconception that an uncontested divorce is only for parties with no children. It is actually the opposite. Couples with children will benefit the most from an uncontested divorce. As parents, the couple will need to co-parent for many years into the future. Keeping the divorce amicable provides for a healthy post-divorce relationship for the couple and a stable family situation for the children.
